Book Launches

We have a number of great books being launched at Fantasticon 2019, many of which will be available in print for the first time from the Fantastic Books Store at the event so you can have them signed by the author for free!

Kate Russell

Author, travel correspondant, tech guru, TED speaker and all round good egg Kate Russell will be joining us!

Kate has been writing about technology, gaming and the Internet since 1995 and now appears weekly on BBC2 and BBC World News, reporting for technology programme Click. A regular expert on the sofa at ITV’s Daybreak and various other TV and radio stations, she writes columns for National Geographic Traveller magazine and Web User magazine. Her first book ‘Working the Cloud’ is the ultimate collection of online tips, tricks and resources for small businesses, start-ups and entrepreneurs who want to get ahead online. In 2014 Kate published her first novel – a science fiction story based (under official license) in the game world of Elite: Dangerous called, Elite: Mostly Harmless. Her latest work is 'A Bookkeeper's Guide to Practical Sorcery', a young adult magical romp through the fictional town of Terratonia following the exploits of Henry Noble, DC and friends. It is available right now as e, paperback and stunning audiobook, read by Charles Collingwood (the voice of BBC Radio 4's Brian Aldridge from the Archers).

Drew Wagar

Drew Wagar, author of FBP bestseller Elite: Reclamation, released the first in his hard science fiction series, the Shadeward Saga - Shadeward: Emanation at FantastiCon 2015. FantastiCon 2016 saw the successful launch of part two Shadeward: Exoneration.

In 2017 he gave an exclusive first reading of his highly commended Elite Dangerous: Premonition, a book whose narrative was helped over the finish line by thousands of players of Elite: Dangerous, live in game!

He also gave a reading from his epic novelisation of classic retro game Lords of Midnight, live at the event!

FantastiCon 2019 will see more excellent content from Drew Wagar, including the first opportunity to grab a signed copy of the third in his Shadeward Saga, Shadeward: Enervation, which launches in July 2019 as an eBook and as a paperback live at the event.

Colin Spaull

Colin Spaull has been a stalwart of stage and screen for decades.

His performances in 'Morse', 'The Last Detective', 'The Inbetweeners', 'Doctors', 'Holby City', 'Eastenders', 'Casualty' and 'The Brittas Empire' were legendary and he's one of only a select few actors who can boast of appearing in both classic and new episodes of Doctor Who.

We're very pleased to announce that Colin will be joining our ranks as a Fantastic author shortly when we publish his autobiography.

Colin will be available for autographs, selfies and is always happy to chat with his fans.

Welcome to the party Colin!

The Hammers of Slough

Led by author, technology journalist and lifelong gamer Kate Russell, the Hammers of Slough are much more than an in-game group of friends from around the world.

Hammers of Slough Sunday is a weekly online gaming party which has ran for years and features regular Hammers Nats Wright (an extremely talented photographer), Bubble (the mastermind behind the brand new Galaxy Crash game), Sarah Johnson (sim racer and 3D Printer extraordinaire) and the incredible Pleijpe (a Dutch madman of the highest order) to name but a handful of this large and growing group.

Our CEO Dan is a proud member and was lucky enough to join the Hammers for a real life pilgrimage to where the Hammers sprang into existence, right outside the local Greggs bakery.

Many a celebratory sausage roll was consumed.

Though their involvement is always mysterious and usually accompanied by a kazoo chorus, all we can tell you is there will be Hammers of Slough in attendance. They came last year and this year they will return and, much like the sand people, in greater numbers.

If you're a fan of a Jammie Dodger biscuit, we'd suggest getting in quick before the Hammers consume them all. Last year's stock lasted about 8 minutes!
